DFI Week 9

The time has gone really fast and I have learnt a lot of new things to help me with my teaching.
I was in a big panic because we were sitting our google exam.  The test was hard but not as hard as I thought.  Although I didn't pass I am going to resit it in two weeks.
My advice to teachers that are going to do DFI is that you stay focused through out the day to the presenters because the exam covers everything that they have presented.

Another observation I have made is that the tamariki of Northland are so lucky to have awesome teachers that are dedicated to the well being of their students and are always looking for ways to inspire children to be the best they can be.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Share within the Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

DFI week 8

What did I Learn

Computational Thinking

Our focus this week was computational thinking.
Involves taking things apart and putting them back together again.

I learnt today to get your tamariki empowered you have to trust that they are doing what they are meant to be doing.
  • Introduce one device at time
  • Allow students to explore and try new things in their learning
  • Give students choices

Computational thinking is a set of problem-solving methods that involve expressing problems and their solutions in ways that a computer could execute.

Children need to know how to read and write code

The new DT Curriculum is “about teaching children how to design their own digital solutions and become creators of, not just users of, digital technologies, to prepare them for the modern workforce.

Chris Hipkins, 2018
Create Share
Our task after lunch was to Create a digital story to reflectively answer either of the following questions
We didn't quite get finished or answer the questions. I can see how this would inspire children to write their own stories using scratch.

DFI 7

DFI week 7 today was very hands on together we made a map from a spread sheet of the favourite  place we had been too.

Then we used a spread sheet to gather statistical data from a blog then we added them to our blog.
We also used google forms to set them up
What did I learn that increased my understanding of being connected with Manaiakalani’s kaupapa and pedagogy?
I have learnt that the Learn Create Share is very powerful for students learning, I knew it was good but now really believe it is important for students to be able to share their work with their whanau and get feedback from others not just their teacher.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
When I go home I need to keep tutuing with things that I learn so that it stays embedded in my brain.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
I will be using google forms a lot in my class. As a warm up maths activity/ making a form to answer comprehension questions

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

By using google forms in my class I can see how it will cut back on marking time, I will get instant feed back on what students know, what they got wrong which will help me to able to see what they need to learn.

DFI 6

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Share within the Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

What I have I learnt this week on DFI

Make all learning visible to students have WALTS and success criteria with every lesson so children know how they can be successful.

Have a multi modal so that all resources are in the one place so students don’t have to go to different places all they need for their in the one place.

What is visible learning where will it take us too:
Video

Digital learning does have blocks:
  • Slow internet
  • You haven’t shared it with the right people

If we collaborate together and make our planning sites available to colleagues this will help to cut down on planning time.
Kyle shared a good reading site getepic.com  lesson plans and templates are there as well, and it is multi modal
Sunshine Classics is free to Manaiakahlani Schools

Found an awesome site from Panmurebridge with some good resources     Panmurebridge classroom site Writing Rubric  Dictionary  Teach your monster to read
Some people shared there sites with us and explained how their site works we have some very clever teachers in Taitokerau thank you for being brave and presenting your site to us.

I did a lot of work on my site to make it easier for my students to find their work on our class site.
